Angela Dodson has decided to resign as our Torch Editor. We know that Angela has been very busy promoting her recently published anthology, We Refuse To Be Silent: Women’s Voices for Justice for Black Men, but I had no idea that she was also working on many other exciting book projects!
As editor of the The Torch magazine for the past three years, Angela has brought her 50 years of journalism experience to help improve our showcase magazine. During her time as editor, The Torch won an international award for design and content. Her many projects include the completion of a book about race relations in the United States, collaborating with a woman descended from a family that held more than 10,000 people in slavery, the Hairstons, more than anyone in the nation. Angela is a descendant of people enslaved on Hairston plantations in each of the three states. Many descendants remained at some of the plantations to work for wages long after slavery ended. Angela is also starting a book for a major publisher about the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the nation’s progress since then. She is also the author of Remember the Ladies: Celebrating Those Who Fought for Freedom at the Ballot Box and wrote the introduction to the 100th anniversary edition in 2020 for Jailed for Freedom: A First-Person Account of the Militant Fight for Women’s Rights, by Doris Stevens. Thankfully, Angela will continue to serve Torch as a valued member of the Trenton Torch Club, one of our most innovative clubs in IATC. We are grateful for all Angela has done to enhance the image of Torch through her work as The Torch editor and we wish her continued success on her other book projects. Please feel free to send Angela a note to express your gratitude for her service to Torch! We will be discussing next steps soon for finding an editor. |
